Nico Porteous
NOVEMBER 23, 2001 in HAMILTON (New Zealand)
Freestyle skiing
Date of birth: 23 November 2001
Place of residence: Wanaka
Since he could tie his boots and put on his skis by himself, Nico spent his time "chasing" snow with his older brother Miguel. At 11 years old, he focused on freestyle and started to get good results in national competitions at 13. As the youngest rider on the circuit, Nico was nicknamed "Nipsy".
The first career highlight was being THE YOUNGEST RIDER IN THE WORLD TO RIDE A TRIPLE CORK 1440.
Confirming his strong potential as one of the best young riders in the world (record since broken)
"He's a perfectionist, he always wants more. A tackled trick is never good enough, even if he's scared, he'll push his limits until it's tackled to perfection the way he wants it." Tommy Pyatt, his coach.
Since then, Nico has won numerous victories and broken records for precocity, establishing himself as a reference in the half-pipe world despite his young age.
And to take his art to the top by winning a gold medal in half-pipe at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, during the same edition, he was also designated flag bearer for New Zealand at the closing ceremony, a consecration.
